「日常２６」 (Nichijou 26) "My Ordinary Life 26" It takes something special to give a series a good ending episode -- especially for series longer than one-cour and this last episode of Nichijou didn't just push the envelope. It stared at that envelope, ripped it in half, ate the pieces, and then lit itself on fire in order to make sure that there was no trace of an envelope.

「死刑囚」 (Shikeishuu) "Dead Man Walking" I didn't know about this series before, but after burning through 40+ chapters of the manga in a day, I was sold and was excited for the anime adaptation to come out. My main fear was that there would be excessive censoring because it's TV anime, not DVD or theaters, and also that the one cour may not be enough. There's quite a bit of material and getting cut short would be no good.

As I type, AnimeOnDemand are holding a little guessing game on Twitter (follow along here) as their way of announcing three new simulcast titles. Updates here as the titles are confirmed. 1 - Steins;Gate - a 2-cour show, based on a Nitro+ visual novel that follows an eclectic group of individuals who have the ability to send text messages to the past. However throughout their experimentation process, an organization named SERN who has been doing their own research on time travel tracks them down. Now it’s a careful game of cat and mouse to not get caught and moreover, try to survive. Crunchyroll have the streaming rights for this one for just about everywhere except the UK and Ireland, so now we know why. The series is set in the same universe as previous Nitro+ series Chaos;head, but I'm told there's otherwise no overlap between the two shows. Other anime adaptations of Nitro+ VNs include Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom and Demonbane. 2 - My Ordinary Life -nichijou- - a non-exclusive title, as Crunchyroll have already begun streaming this one (check out our First Thoughts article). The series is a comedy set in a school where the word "ordinary" could only rarely be used to describe the goings-on there. The artwork for the series has a very Azumanga Daioh vibe to it, and with the show seeming to take a similarly wacky outlook as well, we could be in for something worthwhile here once it really gets going. Production of the series is by Kyoto Animation, so expect their trademark TLC on the visuals. It's a rather different kettle of fish from K-On!, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. 3 - ???

Right. A little news on the Anime On Demand front, rounded up from various sources, which I'll break down into bite-sized chunks. The site's first simulcast goes live this evening (19:00 UK, I believe), and is Tiger and Bunny. Have a read of my first thoughts on that one - and yay, I won't have to worry about proxying it for the rest of the season. The first four episodes of the series will be available free of charge. Further titles are to come so watch this space. The first 'archive' title to appear will be Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, a 26-episode supernatural action / fantasy piece, which will be included in this season's season pass - date and time for the appearance of the first episodes is still TBA, though. Other shows will be added throughout April. Some of the simulcast announcements have been delayed due to the current situation in Japan, which I think earns a little understanding; but there are set to be 6 simulcast shows, of which at least 4 will be AOD-exclusive in the UK. Mini-FAQ: - a season pass will cover all shows in a particular season, and will expire one month after the season ends, after which the episodes will be available as pay-per-view. Where a simulcast season is two-cour or more, you'll need to keep buying season passes for the relevant seasons to get the new episodes. - archive shows that are two-cour (like the aforementioned Nura) will be streamed two episodes per week so that they fit into one season. - streams will be provided in 480P and 720P resolutions. - if you don't want to spring for a season pass, a pay-per-view option is being explored, but won't be available for launch. - the service is available to both the UK and Republic of Ireland. - it's planned to make the first few episodes of each series available in ad-supported form on YouTube. - you'll be able to buy season passes via the site from later today. Another month, another monthly post. We're two-thirds the way through the season now and many shows are approaching their conclusions. There's a fair bit to look back upon, particularly for the two-cour series, as next month will be mostly final impressions. Some changes compared to last month is the addition of shows that we've caught up on and the omission of ones we've fallen behind on for whatever reason. Below are the changes for each writer. Prooof in for Madoka Magica. Takaii in for Kimi ni Todoke, out for Dragon Crisis. Kiiragi in for FREEZING, out for Beelzebub, STAR DRIVER, Hourou Musuko. Me, same as before with my slew of shows. No new review today. Since I started doing this anime review thing back in 2003, I've prided my self on having at least one new review to post every weekday, but it seems that those days are over - although it's not for lack of watching on my part. Instead, I can point to the way anime is being released these days. On the DVD front, we've gone from singles releases with 3-4 episodes each, to cour sets with 12-13 episodes - which by itself would cut the number of releases to review by two-thirds. There's less anime around in the first place, too, thanks to the general implosion in the market. Simulcasts helped pad things out for a while, but having tried reviewing them an episode at a time I've decided that's not the way to do them - too often there's simply nothing worth writing about from one episode to the next without repeating myself. Instead, I'll be reviewing complete seasons when they're done, with the "First Thoughts" posts I've done the past two seasons continuing as well. I'd also played with "Revisited" reviews of old shows that I'd seen but never posted reviews for, but experience tells me that interest in those pieces was very limited. All of this means that there's simply less to review, so from here on in I'll be doing quite well to average 2 new reviews a week. So, do I try to fill the gaps, or just let things tail off? Well, a little bit of both seems to be the answer. Starting next week I'll have a new weekly feature, the Monday Musings, where I'll take whatever anime-related subject happens to be catching my fancy at the time and pontificating on it. Hopefully people will find these interesting, but I make no guarantees. :) I'm also hoping to delve more into the news & curiosities side of things, as and when I find things that I think are of interest. Ultimately, though, there will probably be a little less content going up on AnimeVision. But I'm open to suggestions. Hello again, Today we'll explore another revelation of these last seasons. A 4coma comedy manga adapted in a single cour 12 episodes anime (13 if you count the recap), its name is "Seitokai Yakuindomo". Let's go with the synopsys : Takatoshi Tsuda joins Ōsai Academy, a co-ed high school that until recently had been an all-girl school, where he is asked to join the student council as vice-president and a male representative.   Quite normal story and like most of the 4comas, it concentrate on the jokes, but not on story progression (even if some little progress is there if you make attention). The jokes are really fantastic, I found myself laughing at each and every episode multiple times.  From all the characters the one I most like are Hagimura Suzu (height complex), and Takatoshi Tsuda (tsukkomi man). The anime adaptation was quite truthful to the manga (they followed it strictly unless many animes) and was of a quite high production quality.   Here's the four volumes cover for this series (interested to see which girl they will make the cover in the fifth volume )   The graphical quality of the manga is not at the level of the anime, but still quite good and enjoyable and you find yourself reading new content missing from the anime for those who like me can't wait for a probable second season.
