Reverse Thieves: Ongoing Investigations #019

I finished off most of the Monaco Cup arc of Yakitate!! Japan with books 13 and 14. As always the over the top, sometimes multiple-chapter, reaction gags from the judges are the high point of the series. The character comedy is secondary but still enjoyable. The actual bread is almost secondary, too. So far we [...]

sunny side up: Naruto 1 to 40 manga box sets. Also, 7 SEEDS volume 11, Detektif Conan 52, and Yakitate!! Japan 6 (Elex Media 29 October 2008 manga)

Either Elex has overstocked or it wants to cash in quick on its most bankable manga (or both), but it IS releasing Naruto—from volume 1 to 40—in box sets before October's end. It makes me wonder: how much did it cost to renew the license? Anyway, for those who want to start (or restart) collections of Kishimoto Masashi-sensei's shōnen phenomenon, here's your chance. Perhaps it's because of that

The Kawaii Menace: A shounen action series …

… about baking bread?

Serious baking is not for the faint-hearted.
Azuma Kazuma, the protagonist of Yakitate!! Japan, is a sixteen-year-old with an immense talent for baking. He’s bumptious, naive and not terribly bright, but he is extremely dedicated to his craft. He has a special gift, “solar hands” that make dough rise unusually fast, and he [...]

sunny side up: Yakitate Japan 5, Cop in Tokyo 5, Kiyoshiro Yumemizu 6, In a Distant Time 14, ShoMagz 50 (Elex 6 August 2008 manga)

They obviously hadn't fallen off the face of the not-flat! earth. B'T X, Kurumada Masami-sensei's shōnen manga shucks off its MIA guise and reappears as its volume 11 self in this Elex release list. Meanwhile, Charming Junkie 9 finally makes it as a scheduled, ending my speculations as to when exactly this volume was going to be released (it was supposed to go on sale in May and then July; I'd

Tondemo Nothing!: Sweet Mother of Bread

You need not be Yakitate!! Japan to apply. It would help of course, if you love bread =P
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned the one anime craze that’s been sweeping through my (usually) non-otaku dormmates, and that is Yakitate!! Japan. Yes, that ludicrously entertaining show about baking bread that stretches and kneads the limits of [...]

Tenka Seiha: Antique Bakery #01 — Yakitate Ja-Man

"Do you think this show is educational?"
"Yes, it’ll drive people to read books."
"Hooohohohohohohoh!"
Impressions:
You know how I said that there’s a misogynist point to be made somewhere in Strike Witches? There’s a 1,000 pound homophobic hammer to be made here. If Antique Bakery is to believed, gays are aggressive and slutty, forcing themselves onto other people [...]

Otaben: Iron Wok Jan - Random Comments

So there are a lot of series about cooking out there. Cooking Master Boy, Yakitate! Japan, Kitchen Princess, (Fighting Foodons?) to name a few. But I had never heard of this series until I stumbled upon it somewhat by accident. I also wound up with volume 5 or something (I don't really remember). Either way, Iron Wok Jan reads like a typical shonen series. The volume I stumbled upon involved a
