This is basically a good episode which concludes Makoto's story. In general, this is a rather sad episode but I was surprised to know that it's not as depressing as I thought it would be. I think this is because Makoto looks miserable throughout the episode that the ending feels like a release for her. I also get the impression that Key, or in this case, Kyoto Animation, didn't intend this to be an all out sob-fest that everyone else seems to expect this to be but something that is a lot more subtle. I think this is the reason that the ending feels uplifting despite everything else that happens in the episode. This is also a showcase of Yuuichi's true character and what he's willing to do for someone that he cares about. Having said that, I wonder how important Makoto is to him in comparison to the rest of the girls.
