From the book's collection Helen McCarthy, authoress of such books as Hayao Miyazaki: Master of Japanese Animation and, with Jonathan Clements, The Anime Encyclopedia (from which some of our database info comes), has reportedly released a new book: Manga Cross-Stitch. It's exactly what it sounds like, as non-intuitive as that may be...needlecraft and Japanese comics. So I thought it would be fun to make a book that showed how the two art forms could come together - pixels into stitches, manga and anime into counted thread embroidery."That should sound familiar to anyone who's knitting or stitched anything. For those of you less crafty, how about this: making a knitting or needlecraft design is like making sprites, or any other pixel-based art. So there, nay-sayers! If you've made pixel art you've done one of the hardest parts of cross-stitching. Neener neener!Along with the book you get a CD with printable manga-style designs for manga cross-stitching. I may have to get in touch with McCarthy about snagging a copy myself, as a bit of a (mild) craft nut myself...even if my tastes go more to knitting needles than sewing.
