The series is about a 14-year-old boy in modern-day Japan who is part of a clan of "kekkaishi," or barrier-users, who protect the area from a variety of monsters. (Quick Japanese lesson! If you've listened to InuYasha in Japanese, you're probably familiar with the word "kekkai," or barrier. And the "shi" in Kekkaishi is 師, which is the same "shi" in Mushishi-- whose title means master of the mushi! So, "Kekkaishi" is literally "master of the barrier.") I'm honestly a little surprised-- first because the anime is a couple of years old in Japan, where most of the stuff that runs on Adult Swim is a little newer or even currently airing in Japan. But more than that...I don't know Kekkaishi to be all that violent or sexual in nature. Why is it on Adult Swim? I guess it's just because there's no Toonami now? Mind, I'm not complaining; I'm glad to see more anime on TV. Besides, I've only seen a little bit of Kekkaishi-- maybe some of you know it better? VIZ has been releasing the manga for quite some time; is it darker than I think?
