Senji vs. Ikazuchi.
Raising the roof and bringing down the house... literally.
Summary:
Ikazuchi reveals his power to Senji by smashing open the tunnel into the next room to create a larger space for the fight. Ikazuchi's powers involve using his poison on himself to temporarily make his muscles super strong and durable. The muscle is so durable that Senji cannot cut Ikazuchi with his Crow Claw. While fighting, Senji demands to know how Ikazuchi knows about his past, and Ikazuchi reveals that he was the street punk who killed Senji's police squad mates. The city was a mess after the earthquake with criminals running rampant, but Senji and the others on his police squad tried to restore order by beating up the criminals. Back to the fight, Ikazuchi jumps up and sends the whole ceiling crashing down. Senji is hit by the rubble and while lying on the ground he thinks back to that fateful day.
On that day, Senji received a note from street punks calling him out. Senji prepares to answer the challenge, but his squad leader stuns him with a punch to the stomach and the squad leaves without him. When Senji finally catches up, it was too late. The squad leader was mortally wounded and all the others have been beaten to death. With his last breaths, the squad leader told Senji that he was a burden, but depending on others is the specialty of kids. These words remind Senji of his relationship with Ganta, and this gives Senji enough motivation to get up again. After getting back to his feet, Senji cuts himself and uses a lot of his blood to make a giant blade. Ikazuchi and Senji charge at each other for one final exchange, and in the end Ikazuchi is cut in half, giving Senji the win.
Somewhere down the tunnels, Ganta, Shiro and Azami run into Madoka, who willingly leads Ganta's group to the control device. Ganta declares that he's going to smash the device to pieces, but he and the girls are shocked when Madoka tearfully states that he must kill Ganta.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's it for side fights before Ganta's fight against Madoka. Given how Senji is one of the more prominent supporting characters, I thought his back story would be more interesting, but it wasn't really that shocking. So four of his police buddies knowingly walked into an ambush by a bunch of punks and got killed. Senji feels horrible about it, but it really was the other guys' decision not to bring Senji along that got them killed. I'm not really sure why the other police decided to leave Senji behind anyways. I suppose that Senji seems normal when compared to some of the other Deadmen, so his story kind of reflects that. The story also didn't explain how Senji ended up in jail, but maybe the author is saving that for another chapter.
Now that the other Deadmen have taken care of business, it's time for Ganta and girls to face Madoka. Madoka will probably end up as the most powerful of the four completed Forgeries, but we all know Ganta will win one way or another. The Red Man is standing beside him after all.
