I've been on an anime watching marathon ever since I came back from church this afternoon. So far I've managed to finish all 26 episodes of xxxHolic and watched another 10 episodes of Macross Frontier. This post is going to be my thoughts on this two anime series which are quite old but have been only watched by me recently.I have to admit that I didn't like xxxHolic, not very much at all - the story was dull and there weren't much character development at all. Watching the series makes me feel as if I'm going on a lecture in college and the topic is on human being. Seriously, those taking Psychology should watch the series and see how Yuko managed to brainwash all those people.Nevertheless there are parts which I enjoyed - the parts with Zashiki Warashi in it. She's really cute, and much cuter than Himawari. In fact, I don't know why but I don't seem to fancy Himawari at all, probably because she's very very insensitive towards Watanuki. Besides that I don't really like the whole Watanuki x Doumeki relationship either. Guess I've had too much of Clannad related animes in that I'll get really uninterested in exaggerated yet false relationships. Macross Frontier is quite a nice anime series and I like what I have watched so far. Its story talks about humanity in outer space in the near future. The theme songs and insert songs are quite good to the ears, although I have to admit that my expectation were somewhat higher considering the whole May'N concert hype. I am fine with the theme, but I still have to point out that mecha is not one of my favourite genres, hence the only thing which motivates me to continue watching this is for the romance and the songs.Besides that, I don't like the feeling of watching a series which happens to be the sequel of other series - the feeling of that you've been left out by knowing that you've missed something important. It sucks. Episode 10 of Macross F made me felt really really nauseous - it's like watching Digimon Zero 2 without watching Digimon Adventure first - that sort of feeling. On the other hand, I like how much focus is given on the three main characters Alto, Sheryl and Ranka. Somehow their hair colours form the primary colours: blue, red and green respectively. What I like about these three is the love triangle that form in between them. I've seen cosplays of them too over at a local ACG convention, the "Games, Animes and Mangas Party" (GAMP). It is indeed a weird feeling now that I have watched the series and got to know the characters that they were cosplaying - it should have been the other way round so that I'd be able to appreciate the cosplay.
