If you're one of the people who are still watching this but are getting sick of the "daily school life" stuff, skip forward to the second half of the episode. It looks like the plot might finally be emerging...
However, the show is still perfectly content with moving at its own pace, subtle hints or not. While the end of the episode with the Elder Bairn's comment and the return of the unseen narrator do make it clear that, yes, this is leading to something, just hang on a second, it doesn't guarantee that something will happen in the next episode. That said, I'm not ruling out the possibility that the next episode preview was a tease and things will really start going somewhere next episode, since this episode devoted more time to the monster fights instead of just regulating them to the last five minutes like the previous two episodes have done. A lot of interesting things were teased in the monster fight as well.
So far, we've only seen a possessed statue and a deadly plant, so it's not completely clear how "different" this monster is compared to the ones that Saya has fought up until now, but it does mark the first time that an innocent bystander gets caught up in the fight. The monster is like some kind of demonic Venus flytrap with some hypnosis added in for good measure, since the guy snaps out of it just a few seconds before he was devoured. I was a bit disappointed in Saya when she just stood there and let this happen; isn't she fighting the Elder Bairns to protect people? There was also the moment during the fight when her eyes changed from her normal bluish-grey to red, something which has obviously happened before, but the exact moment of change hasn't been that dramatic until now. Add a sadistic grin when she kills the Elder Bairn, and I'm starting to believe that we're dealing with something deeper than a split personality. What all these small hints are leading up to, however, is still anyone's guess.
