A beautiful spring. As usual, new Homare High School second years Shuta, Yuki, Kaname and Shun head to school, enjoying the sight of the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Kaname sets out to break the lone-wolf reputation his classmate Yuki's high school experience by forcing him to join a club. Yuki, though, really doen't care much about such things, and getting him to commit to one is more easily said than done...
I don't have enough fingers to count the number of high school slice-of-life / comedy shows based around girls that there've been over the past few years. High school slice-of-life comedies based around boys, though, is something else - and rather unusual these days. You and Me is also at lot less frenetic than its feminine counterparts, although it's characters are no less... unusual. Twins Yuta and Yuko look alike but are rather different in personality; Kaname is rather gruff with his friends; and Shun made me do a double-take to make sure he wasn't a girl. The one thing they have in common, despite a long-standing friendship, is a general couldn't-be-bothered attitude (although Yuki outdoes the others in that department). Interesting to watch? They are, up to a point. But I'm hoping there'll be some female interest along the way to balance out all that testosterone.
THE GOOD: Curious characters, laid back feel, good-looking series. Animators clearly obsessed with cats, as they're everywhere.
THE BAD: Maybe a little too laid back in places, leads could do with a little more emotion to them. Needs a few girls.
Nothing here to really put me off, but still waiting for something about it to grab me, too. We'll see how it goes.
