Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger 6 HAHAHAHA. This show never fails to make me laugh out loud. This episode was all about the lead-up to Date vs. Martinez, and the tension in the air is doing things like this (above) to Ippo. Date has been chasing Martinez for the 7 years since he was badly beaten by him via round 2 KO in his only recorded loss, and Martinez has been successfully defending his title ever since. The loss had a devastating effect on Date’s personal life (his wife lost the child she was carrying shortly afterward) so Date’s had his eye on the champion’s back since then - just like Ippo is following Date. Ippo cheers Date on to win, and a confident Date says he’ll be waiting for Ippo at the top. He brings that same confidence into the ring and opens the fight with a flashy combo - landing a left on the champ. Next week more of the main event, and hopefully Ippo won’t die of excitement first!
