Eden of the East - Tricked-Out Cellphone Boner
Since I’ve been radio-silent on this front so far, I feel the need to express how much I’ve been loving Eden of the East. I mean, check out this screenshot. This guy is so badass. He just killed a guy with his finger. OK, more like with his money and cellphone. But still, the phone/concierge system is a very very cool plot device, from this execution-style killing to the immediacy of Akira’s bribe at immigration, and the corrupt cop (?) following his spending over the network.
The slowly-unfurling conspiracy backstory and nuclear threat just adds intensity to a show I already would have enjoyed thanks sheerly to the chemistry between the two main characters. (Alright, the high production vals help too. Really nice animation and soundtrack. The OP and EDs are both stellar, sasu ga NoitaminA~) And speaking of great chemistry, I noticed that rad Japanese phones were also responsible for my other favourite moment of episode 2 - the scene where Saki and Akira are playing with Saki’s cellphone camera on the ferry. I get the feeling this show might have it all.
