For those not studying Japanese, the pun in the headline is that “Hajime no Ippo” means “the starting step,” niban means “second.” Though even that's kind of a misnomer in this case...Bad puns in headlines aside, ANN reports that a sequel to Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger, which is currently airing in Japan and is itself a continuation of the original Hajime no Ippo, looks to be scoring a sequel in the near future.Rikiya Koyama, the voice actor behind the character of Mamoru Takamura (who has never lost a match and always KOs his opponents), reportedly blogged about the sequel being in the planning stages, though it sounds like there'll be a break since New Challenger is ending on June 30th. That's also not unprecedented; the first season of Hajime no Ippo ended in 2002, and New Challenger didn't start until 2009....Hopefully we won't have a seven-year wait this time, though!
