One week after the big battle between Scar Chain and the Undertakers, Shiro tries to cheer Ganta up by cooking a meal for him.That's gotta be some potent concoction to knock out a guy with an iron stomach like that.Summary:One week after the battle with the Undertakers, the escapees from Scar Chain has drawn media attention on the Branches of Sin and Deadman Wonderland. Inside Deadman Wonderland, Ganta is finally let out of solitary confinement for his role in the battle. Ganta has developed a strange growth on his chest, and he also seems to be distant and disconnected and has lost his sense of taste. Worried about Ganta, Shiro seeks the advice of the Takami siblings, and Minatsuki suggests that Shiro say mean things to Ganta to get him to react. The conversation is overheard by the crossdressing Chaplin who suggests that Shiro cook a meal for Ganta. Chaplin turns out to be skilled in the kitchen, but the same cannot be said for Shiro whose first creations causes the "eat-anything" Kazuya to faint.Meanwhile, Ganta runs into Senji in the hallways. Senji notices Ganta's weird behaviour and finds out that Ganta is afraid that Scar Chain's efforts were in vain and nothing has changed. In response, Senji states that Scar Chain has made a difference and mentions the recent news reports, and he tells Ganta that "nothing changes" is the way a brat thinks.In the upper levels of Deadman Wonderland, Azami is injected with "an immunization" shot by the Doctor (I don't know her name). Unbeknownst to the Doctor, Azami is actually a spy for Chief Makina who wants to find out more about the G Sector and the Deadman.Not quite breakfast in bed, but the maid is worth the difference.Down in G Sector, Ganta couldn't sleep so he wanders into the kitchen where Shiro is still toiling away while Chaplin and the others are asleep. Not noticing Ganta, Shiro blurts out that she is cooking in order to make Ganta happy and this causes some feelings to swell up inside Ganta. The next morning, Ganta wakes up and finds a sleeping Shiro with a tray of food beside his bed. Shiro wakes up and wonders if Ganta will eat the food, and to her relief Ganta finds the food to be quite tasty. Ganta is now feeling better and shares the tray of food with Shiro.On the upper levels of the prison, some of the prisoners who have been "immunized" are developing a itchy bump at the injection site. Meanwhile, the Doctor spots something strange in a blood sample.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Deadman Wonderland is back!! The last new chapter I read was five months ago, so I had to flip back to some of the older chapters to remember what happened. For some strange (or dumb) reason, Ganta had elected to stay instead of escaping with Scar Chain, and so he is still stuck in this hellhole while the Scar Chain people managed to make the headline news. The sudden departure of the Scar Chain characters (Karako mostly) is kind of weird especially given that Ganta is staying around, but I suppose we can't have our protagonist out of the prison this early in the story. This isn't Prison Break. I wonder if Takami has made an effort to discredit, recapture or kill the escapees, since all the headline news can't be good of his plans. With Scar Chain now out of the picture, I also wonder about Ganta's goals and motivation. He had a good chance to escape but he didn't take it, so what will Ganta try to achieve in the next part of the story?Anyways, this was a very lighthearted chapter by Deadman Wonderland standards (no one got blasted or sliced to pieces) and mostly focused on Ganta getting back to normal after the trauma of the big battle, but there were some interesting developments as well. First of all, the Nameless Worm crystal in Ganta's chest has grown significantly, which probably means that Ganta is a lot more powerful than before. I'm guessing there might be some not so nice side effects as well. Secondly, Azami (had to flip back to chapter 8 to remember who she was) is now a Deadman and also Makina's new spy. Azami knows Ganta, Shiro and Yoh from before, and this will probably be significant for the story. Thirdly, the last panel showed that the Doctor looking at a small strange creature in a syringe. Could that little octopus-like creature by the Nameless Worm?After five months of no new chapters, hopefully Deadman Wonderland will be back in regular monthly release. I am also looking forward to the anime adaptation which is definitely going to be sick and nasty.
