Initial impression – mostly the same, but a little different Autumn 2012 (12 episodes) (more info) Picking up exactly where it left off in season one, Medaka Box Abnormal is showing signs of making a big deviation from the storytelling methods it used during its previous iteration. Where the first season was very episodic and [...]

For all of the hopes placed upon it, Medaka Box turned out to be a decidedly poor and broadly dull showing from GAINAX - with better source material ahead and a second bite at its proverbial cherry, can this second season fare any better?
Following on directly from the first series, Abnormal's first episode brings us to the aftermath of Medaka Kurokami's defeat of Unzen, leaving a hefty chunk of

I'm going to give a forewarning and straight forward notice: I love Medaka Box and will probably have a positive bias towards it. My story is funny though- I've never actually read the first five books of the manga. I picked up the manga (reading weekly shonen jump) I believe somewhere in the middle of the second arc not knowing what was happening but became hooked to it anyways. Later I found out the writer was Nishio Ishin, writer of Bakemonogatari. So thus this is my first look at how Medaka Box begins, and I sort of expected no less knowing the background of the characters in advance. Medaka Kurokami is the perfect woman. Top of the class, gifted in the arts and adept at sports, she’s just been elected Student Council President with an unprecedented 98% of the votes, even though she’s only a first year student. She even has the looks – and the assets – to match. There’s just one [...]

Thoughts: The most perfect student council president Kurokami Medaka, sets about keeping her campaign promise of being available 24/7, 365 days of the year, and solving anyone’s problem by enlisting (that is putting it really nicely) the help of her childhood friend Hitoyoshi Zenkichi. He is reluctant but goes along with her to fulfill the [...]

Initial impression – could go either way Spring 2012 (12 episodes) (more info) Overall, Medaka Box has an endearing sincerity and is full of fun twists and turns with a good pace that keeps you on your toes. The over-enthusiastic attitude of Medaka reminds me very strongly of Haruhi Suzumiya and the half-hearted reluctance of [...]

I just started watching Medaka Box, 2 days late but well..better late than never. To start off, the show is from the one who created the monogatari series. Hearing the name Nisio Isin is enough for me to get me started on picking up this series. The animation is done by Gainax who produced Gurren [...]
