Misato drives Shinji to Unit 01 while Asuka battles the military with Unit 02.Funny how the first missile doesn't explode on impact.Summary:Misato has dragged Shinji to the parking lot into her car. While on their way to Unit 01, Misato explains some history about the Impacts and the Angels. The First Impact happened long ago and signaled the arrival of Lilith. The original life form on Earth was Adam, and Adam spawned 12 disciples who are the Angels. Lilith also spawned a disciple and that is the humans. The Second Impact was done on purpose to return Adam to the embryonic state to minimize damage. Since Adam was returned to an embryo, the rest of Angel target Lilith inside the Geofront so they can merge with Lilith, wipe out humanity and proliferate as the new dominant life form on Earth. Since all of the Angels were defeated by NERV and the EVAs, that's not going to happen. Unfortunately, Gendo wants the Third Impact to happen, and Misato begs Shinji to do something or humanity is doomed. At this moment, Misato gets transmission from the control center that Unit 02 has reactivated.In the pool outside the pyramid, Asuka's Unit 02 is met by cannon fires and missiles, but she tosses the ship that and destroys the nearby enemies. After jumping back ashore, Unit 02 is hit by two large missiles but the EVA is unharmed because of its AT fields. While fighting, Asuka remembers that one time where she had a picnic with her mother in a field of sunflowers, and after thinking about things Asuka concludes that her mother has always been watching over her.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~No surprise that the story is still following the End of Evangelion (including the double missile smash scene), but there are some noticeable differences in the narration and details. It might because of my memory of EoE is fuzzy, but I don't remember Asuka ever coming to terms with her abandonment issues into the movie. I'm pretty sure that picnic dream wasn't in there either. I also don't remember Misato driving Shinji to Unit 01 in her car and giving him the low down on the Human Instrumentality Project (lol don't remember if that was the official term either). *spoiler for EoE* In the movie I'm pretty sure Misato kissed Shinji goodbye and got shot and the two never went to parking lot *end spoilers*. So possibly the plots between the movie and the manga are starting diverge. Let's see what'll happen to Asuka and Unit 02. I'm kind of hoping they won't be eviscerated this time.
