The Paranormal Investigation Club at Seikyou Private Academy investigates the strange occurrences that happen on school grounds. A task that at least on of the members, Momoe Okonogi, perhaps takes a little too seriously. Recently, the students have noticed that the old dumbwaiter, formerly used by the school kitchens but now out-of-use, has been working by itself. Is this the work of malevolent spirit - or is there something else going on..?
Strange opening episode, this, as it runs through the events of the story twice - once through Momoe's eyes, and again showing us what really happened, as in the background of everything is Yuuko: the (dead) President of the Paranormal Investigation Club, who can only be seen by other club members Kirie and Niiya. Which Yuuko uses to good effect to troll poor Momoe on a massive level. Read the description for this episode, and it sounds a lot more serious than it really is... but while I'm sure we'll get round to the serious stuff before too long (we are dealing with a dead girl with no memories, after all), this episode is a good introduction that's genuinely funny, and I hope the series doesn't lose its sense of humour along the way.
THE GOOD: Funny - Yuuko is a top-tier troll, and Momoe takes the whole paranomal thing so seriously (without realising how close to it that she really is) that you can't help but laugh. Some good atmosphere where it's called for.
THE BAD: Took a while to get around to explaining what was really going on - as in the final scenes of the episode. I'm okay with working things out myself, but don't make me think for too long. Otherwise, nothing that really annoyed me...
Wasn't quite what I was expecting, but enjoyed Dusk Maiden of Amnesia a lot, and I'm looking forward to seeing more...
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is streamed by Crunchyroll.
