Initial impression – spine-tingling beauty Winter 2012 (12 episodes) (more info) I can’t recall seeing such a somber start to an anime since ef – a tale of memories. But even that wasn’t so dark when compared to the first episode of Another. But amazingly it’s not a depressing darkness that makes the viewer sad, [...]

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold-on please? Another is another show that hit most, if not all, of the proper criteria I set in my reviews. Great animation, art, character design, music, voice acting, and direction. Words cannot describe how I’m excited on the next episodes of this series. It’s also notable that I got interested in [...]

At the center is the beautiful girl Mei Misaki. Kouichi is immediately drawn to her mysterious aura, but then he begins to realize that no one else [...]

Another is one of those horror anime that seems to be quite promising and it has an Ali Project OP, so I’m thinking might be good… I’ve only liked a very few horror stuff and that goes into anime as … Continue reading →

To be honest, I’ve been looking forward to this one. We start off with a background story about a class years before the start of the show with a student named Misaki, a smart and popular girl who dies. However, … Continue reading →

Back with the premier of another Winter 2012 anime, the horror series I was oddly drawn to (not kidding, I couldn’t explain why, but I really wanted to see this), Another. Centered around the untimely death of a 9th grader … Continue reading →

"This is what kids today find scary, right? Right?"
Watching Another is like listening to a little kid try to tell you about a story that they found really scary. They add in stuff to try and make it creepier and really try to impress on you that "this story is scary, really!" and meanwhile you're just smiling along, trying to give the kid the benefit of the doubt, and you don't want to tell them that they've already spoiled the ending with their excitement. This episode really goes out of its way to emphasize how "creepy" it is; long silences, lack of proper lighting whenever possible, and random shots of dolls (although that might be the show's way of having scene transitions, I don't know). If the twist is that Mei is dead, then we've got a problem. As for the strange behavior of the students, my money's on that they're "acting," a la Blood-C. To be fair, all of this is really a minor annoyance at best (but great to poke fun at on Twitter), but my main problem at the moment is that the Generic Anime Lead™ doesn't seem to notice any of this. I hate to say it, but it reminds me of Ookami Kakushi, which started off with a promising premise but then fell flat on its face in the execution (among other things). While there's no reason to expect that it will get that bad, the fact that some of the "secrets" are plainly obvious from the get-go does not bode well. At the very least, the show looks great; P.A. Works delivers again. Despite my misgivings, I'm going to assume for now that Another has more up its sleeve than it appears to. I would love to be proved wrong.

Every single person had a story to tell, not only with their book, but with their life. It happened 26 years ago, a popular girl named misaki who’s smart, pretty and had a great personality from 9th grade, class 3 suddenly died from an accident. Since Misaki was loved by both students and teachers alike, everybody was in [...]

Anazaa is anything but perfect. It’s less painful to watch than Symphogear but it still bears a number of flaws that absolutely put me off. Mizushima is clearly trying to create an atmospheric series, but as a horror fan– I … Continue reading →

Episode 01- After looking at how the blogosphere has received this show, I almost feel as if I’m one of the only ones out there that wasn’t much of a fan of this premiere. Another has been trying to sell it’s horror credentials, but it’s just doesn’t have a scary premise. If anything, Another would [...]

Written by: Cholisose at Sea Slugs! Anime BlogSummary: Off-screen, two students discuss the story of Misaki, a ninth-grader from class 3 who died 26 years ago, presumably through an accident of some kind. The class liked her so much though, that everyone decided to pretend she was still alive and there at school everyday, all the way up to graduation. And then… [...]

Oh boy, it’s Another episode one! You know what that means: Another horror adaptation for people to gripe about. And, as you can very well imagine, I’m one of those people who chooses to gripe about it, for its own good. No matter what, I will justify this decision to myself regardless of what unscrupulous [...]

「Rough sketch 素描」 (Sobyō)
It’s very hard for a show with the kind of expectations I had for Another to live up to them, and after watching the premiere I have to say it didn’t. It surpassed them.
