Macross Frontier’s official website confirms that there will be another theatrical film, bringing the total to two. The first will open in Japanese theaters on November 21st, and will be called Macross Frontier ~Itsuwari no Utahime~ (Macross Frontier the Movie: The False Songstress). It will be a retelling of the original story, with some new footage. However, the second film will be totally original, with new music and everything. Hopefully that means it will continue where the story left off. I’m tired of the boring old, “Check out this new movie, which is actually just a giant recap episode,” attitude that Japanese producers have been shoveling out forever. But thank you for releasing a movie that isn’t a recap, because new storylines are always welcomed.

Bad news for figure fans: Jun Planning, who recently shut down its US-based operations, has reportedly suspended its operations in Japan as well and filed for bankruptcy, saddled with about $33 million USD in debt.I don't know very much about how bankruptcy works in Japan versus the US (anyone who does, feel free to chime in), so it's unclear to me at this point whether Jun Planning can reorganize and potentially move forward again or if they're completely down for the count. But hopefully we'll hear more as the bankruptcy moves forward.In the meantime, I think this does not bode well for the Revy and Louise figures I wanted from them. Unless we get lucky and they've already been produced, in which case they may yet get sold to help counter some of that debt...maybe? Again, not sure how Japanese bankruptcy works!

Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger - THE GRUDGE Another training-focused episode as Takamura struggles with weight control leading up to his world title fight with Brian Hawk. I don’t even know what to say about Hawk’s revolting, fat-tongued case of yellow fever - who is getting the worse end of that racist depiction? Hawk for being a disgusting monster of a gaijin or the xenophobic Japanese men feeling emasculated by Hawk’s consumption of their women? - so yeah, let’s not even get into that. It’s good to see Takamura getting riled up by it though. The main focus of the past few episodes has been Takamura of course - his delinquent past, his wealthy but fractured family, his reasons for boxing and his extreme weight control (dropping 20 FREAKING KILOS to make super middleweight? Willing suspension of disbelief…) This episode was more of the same and offered a few sweet moments of Takamura bonding (both with the coach, as seen above, and with the younger boxers), some of the usual Ippo humour (at Aoki’s expense in other words), and a lot of Takamura’s excruciating struggle to drop weight. I always get a weird feeling from weight control oriented episodes of Ippo because of the almost painful vibe. The skeletal way the boxers are drawn with their cheeks sucked in and their dry, wrinkled skin makes me feel like I’m watching horror rather than sports genre. Especially at the end of this episode, where a corpse-like Takamura swears his revenge upon Hawk for causing his agony…. THE GRUDGE!!! I guess Ippo does a good job representing the frustration and suffering of severe weight control because these episodes always make me cringe. I really hate these arcs - a few of Miyata’s also come to mind - but hey, way to make the viewer really LIVE it. The quality of this show never fails to astound me.

So I found out today that I have tuberculosis. That's one of those really scary things that you never want to hear from your doctor. Fortunately, after some testing, it was determined that I have latent tuberculosis instead of active, which means I'm not in huge danger and can't spread it. I am, however, on antibiotics for the next several months, and I'm dead tired right now from all the running around to various clinics that I did. On a more upbeat note, I was watching TBS the other day, and a commercial for Volvic FruitKiss aired with a really catchy song. I've never had this drink and the commercial didn't exactly make me want some, but it did prompt me to look up the singer MiChi and the song KiSS KiSS xxx, and now it's stuck in my head. This becomes yet another single and PV that I'm interested in, along with the Valkyria OP by HIMEKA and the current Bleach OP by SCANDAL. Since the reaction to Trillian's photography last time was so positive, here's another image.
