Hello again,
Let's go talk about another light Novel/manga/anime series that got "shafted" multiple way over. Yes, we're talking about Bakemonogatari, a series that is probably known to everyone!
Let's start up with a synopsys :
Bakemonogatari centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third year high school student who is almost human again after briefly becoming a vampire. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjōgahara, who never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi's arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs next to nothing, in defiance of physics. Despite being threatened by her to keep away, Koyomi offers his help, and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a strange middle-aged man living in an abandoned building, who cured him of being a vampire.
Let's start by saying that this story is wonderful, it grip you and makes you want to watch everything in one go. It divide itself in multiple arcs, one for each girl he saves up by something unnatural (he is our regular unconscious harem builder (Touma I'm watching you )).
The characters are well defined and pretty interesting. Especially Hitagi's behaviour is amusing and makes you laugh more than once. (She is rather irregular as behaviour ). Our main character is nice and with some courage. (no emo kid here fortunately)
There is some growth in some of the characters, but no incredible changes on that regard.
The seiyuu in this series pretty much high level (Yui Horie, Chiwa Saitou, etc..) and do a good job impersonating our characters. OP and ED are wonderful and I've listened to them countless time. (I'll probably do another post to talk about them later on)
I said "this show got shafted", and that's true. If you followed the TV broadcast you'll see missing scenes covered with the classic shaft background with text that magically reappear in the DVD release.
Time limit or way to increase sales? Take your pick!
Concluding, this is a great series. One that I would want to see a sequel right away (there is still some material left to animate, even if is not named "Bakemonogatari"), so let's hope in Shaft.
Ah yes, I forgot...Hitagi is MY WIFE, don't even try to touch her. Ok?
