This episode harshly criticises those who act before thinking and sport a crew cut. Yup, because Ukita died this episode while doing something really stupid and rash. In any case, this episode focusses highly on the second Kira appearing, and nothing more or less than that.
Continuing from the previous episode, the Kira tapes are on [...]

This episode is probably the most exciting yet. The awesome music accompaniment really increases tension and thrill, and I now I would be on the edge of my seat the whole time, anxiously awaiting the next second to arrive, every second of the show if I hadn’t read the manga. The other obvious highlight [...]

Episode: Death Note Episode 11
Well, here is the long-awaited Hirano Aya's debut as Amane Misa. I personally think the voice she uses here is similar to her voice as Haruhi, which is fine since Misa is a bit Haruhi-like. Unfortunately her character design looks kind of off from the short few minutes that I get to see. She looks a lot older for some reason, which I hope it's just an animation mistake instead of something intentional. Unfortunately, it'll be in 2 weeks time before we'll know about this since the series will take a 2 weeks break until January. This seems to be the case with the majority of other series that I cover. Anyway, I'm sorry for the lousy image quality. I haven't had the chance to get a higher res version of the file but I'll update the images once I go back home.

Who’s everyone favorite Shinigami?
No, I’m not talking about that badass zambato weaving Ichigo, but the apple-I-lovin’-it Ryuuku.
Otherwise affectionally known as Ryuuk.
This photoshoot is considerably poorer than the usual because of the camera. Since I had no access to the godly camera that tj han provides on our regular photoshoots, I had to use my [...]

Boomerang Snake! Dunk Smash! Split-Step! Of course you’re not seeing it in Death Note. But the tennis game scene is also quite engaging. But both of them are even better then the “Prince of Tennis” (PoT) players since them both are able to deduce about their reasoning thing during the tennis [...]

This series has entered its 2 digit episode number mark! Hooray! This episode, the minigames as I would call it begin, with L and Kira making potshots at each other to determine if they are who they really are.
Now, a brief run through of what happened. Kira and L first start off their friendship with [...]

I think what’s eating me now is the anticipation of the next episode. The end of the episode, with the appearance of the tapes must have many viewers wondering, though for me and other eager manga readers, it’s the signal that Misa is only one step away from appearing. She should make her grand [...]

One thing about Light and L irks me a bit. They’re great characters, which match each other perfectly, though I’m beginning to fear that the creators went a bit too far into making them as perfect as possible, aside from a few flaws. I can understand that Light has to be rather smart in order [...]

I am a bit disappointed with this episode. It's probably because I imagined the tennis match to be a lot more intense than the one that ended up being portrayed here. I think this is the minor downside of having so many internal monologues happening in one episode. Every time this happens, the animators have no choice but to focus on the face of the character so that the viewers can understand which one of the two is actually voicing his inner thoughts. In exchange, however, these scenes end up being static and only occasionally interesting when one party says something shocking and manages to unsettle the other. The only thing that saved this episode is the interesting speech that Yagami Souchirou gets to deliver near the end of the episode about how power corrupts an individual.

Introduction of the new arc this week. L and Raito face off in a sort of cold war, which Raito loses. Yes, the one that sparks off Raito’s infamous chair posture and grin.

I have to say that this is my favorite anime for this season. Most of the anime released in the fall season were always better. To name a few, previous years got the HiME series, Gundam series and Bleach. Although there’s a lot of good anime in this season but Death [...]

Finally, L and Light come to a face-to-face confrontation, and guess what, Light completely breaks down! We finally see Light as an monstrously evil self with the sole intention of killing L. However, his original goal, to reform the world, still remains and has become instinctual. He will continue to kill [...]

Somewhere out there on the vastness of the internet there exist a number of people who dedicated their time and effort towards making Death Note funny. I hadn’t thought it could be done, but after seeing some parody images, I see it’s just perfect for making fun of. Here’s some that I have on-hand.

As with episode 7, we have another episode solely dedicated to one event: L, walking up to Light and telling him that he’s L. It’s an interesting tactic, as this now makes sure that Light can’t just kill L, even if he knew his name, as L figured that Light figured that L would tell [...]

Episode: Death Note Episode 9
Before I start, I wonder if anyone knows if the painting included in this episode actually exists in reality? If it does, what is the name of the painting? I suppose the author could have drawn it in such a way so that it looks like a Renaissance piece of art but for some reason it reminds me of a famous painting which I've seen before but I can't recall the name anymore. The reason I'm asking is because I'm interested in the quasi-religious references scattered within the series and wonder if the author had inserted them so that later on the readers/viewers can look for background information on them. For example, I've mentioned before that the series compares Light to the infamous fallen Angel Lucifer by showing Light posing in front of what looks like a painting of an angel in the OP. And of course there is the symbolism of Apple as the forbidden fruit, one which Ryuk craves and can't live without.
