Low on Hit Points
11/22/2008 02:02 AM UTCKannagi :: Missed potential is everywhere, but most of all with Zange >>
Back when it was simply Nagi and Jin, I loved Kannagi. The introduction of the rest of the cast has damaged the show in my eyes. From the obvious and played-out contributions from Akiba and Takako, to the potentially good but largely ignored Daitetsu, most of what I'm seeing feels just off the mark. But the most missed potential has to reside in Zange.

Sony fanboy to the rescue.
I don’t care if this show every gets back on track with the supposed “main story”. As long as they keep up the comedy I can watch these random side stories forever.
P.S. Check out this Kannagi fan made video.

On the whole, Kannagi is a good show. There are parts which are absolutely exceptional, and there are also parts that make me groan. The parts that make me groan are few and far between, but are frequent enough that it pulls the show down from being exceptional, to being just good (but at times [...]

Nagi and Jin had a fight and we see that Jin is besieging Nagi’s stronghold (Jin’s closet). Nagi has stocked up on snacks, raided several drinks, brought her magic stick for light, and opened up Jin’s collection of ero-magazines for entertainment, and even with Tsugumi and Zange’s help Jin cannot break Nagi’s defenses. [ Episode 6: Nagi-tan's Heart-beating Craziness ]
SUMMARY
After a bit of a misunderstanding via the phone, Tsugumi ends up taking Nagi shopping for clothes, undergarments, shoes, bags, etc. all with just 10,000 measly yen (this is shopping we’re talking about). Nagi depresses after trying out a C-size bra only to find that she’s relatively flat. Intimidated [...]

Kanzeon and Tsuiteru: Awesome filler episode with Nagi locking herself up in the closet. You thought that an episode with not too much Nagi can be boring? Then THINK AGAIN.
While doing his homework, Jin refrained for a while and rushed in to his closet. There he yells at Nagi (who’s inside there) to come out [...]

I still remain firmly convinced that Kannagi is a solid testament to the assertion that the difference between being trite and not being trite is in how it’s executed rather than how it’s conceived. But I’m pretty sure that everyone realizes this already and that, rather, I would like to spend some time explicating some [...]

Well, episode seven is, at least.
Tip to the Haruhi writer and Kyo-Ani’s staff: Character-based humor works best when the characters aren’t totally boring and shitty.
So, yeah, I must offer my congratulations to the Kannagi director guy. He has managed to exceed Kyo-Ani!

Kannagi peaked @ episode 7.
And that is fine. I think if I dropped the show right here and now, I would have already gotten my money’s worth, so to speak. Kannagi had made a fan, and it will get my money. I’d save the rest of my time left, lest my passion and curiosity for [...]

Featuring an entire episode where the star of your show is shut in a closet out of sight might not seem like the most prudent of ideas if you're trying to pen an anime series, but that's exactly what we have here with Kannagi's seventh episode. Guess what? It works pretty damn well too.
The episode begins with Nagi having shut herself in the closet right from the get-go, due to some kind of

In this episode, we learn more about the personalities of some characters ie. Tsugumi = Shy shy, Takako = Hentai, Zange = very Flirtatious and Akiba = hardcore Otaku!! Well, actually, we already know of some of these characteristics but this episode shows more of it.This episode is about Jin and how he tries to apologize to Nagi (with the help of many friends) for something bad he has done. Throughout 90% of the episode, it's unknown to us what exactly is it that he has done. They did a good job keeping us in suspense and leaving it to our imagination.Instead of showing the 'extreme' scenes, they show you a sweating bottle. LOL It's up to you to imagine what happens. :PThere are some funny moments and all in all, I do enjoy this episode. Episode 7Nagi is angry with Jin for something bad he has done. She locks herself up in the closet.Tsugumi arrives and tries to persuade Nagi to forgive Jin. Tsugumi fails.Jin calls Akiba for help!Zange arrives and she starts flirting with Jin.Jin keeps all of his 'private collections' in the closet. Nagi reads it to kill boredom and she also uses it to fan her... below =X (what kind of a goddess is she?! haha)Zange flirts with Jin outside the closet in the hope to lure Nagi out. (It's unknown what they are doing.. not shown ><)Tsugumi listens to Jin and Zange outside. (but it must be something interesting :P)This is the result of Zange's flirting! (Pro!!)The Art Club sempai arrive after hearing about what happen from Akiba. Takako is supposed to return Akiba the KamaPure Game (remember last week's Maid Cafe??).Tsugumi looks at the back cover of the game and blushes. Tokako teasingly calls her the 'too-shy-shy girl'. (LOL.. I wonder what's at the back cover ^^)Daitetsu arrives too. Tokako called him to come just in case. Now, there are 6 people outside the closet.Suddenly, a cockroach comes out from the closet and causes a big commotion. (I hate cockroach too!! ::eek::)Finally, Akiba arrives!!And they hug!! (LOL.. so gay..)After 20 good minutes, they finally reveal why Nagi is angry. The night before, while Nagi was bathing, Jin used a tape to record a show she likes. The show is called 'Heart Throbbing Cat filled Land' (what an 'interesting' title!). However, Nagi has another show, 'Lolikko Cutie', recorded in the Same tape and she hasn't watch it. (No wonder she's angry. As the saying goes, 'be Smart but don't Act Smart'. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be too helpful.)Akiba supports Sony!!As Jin does not own a DVD player, Akiba lends him a tape instead. Inside the tape, there's 'Lolikko Cutie'. Nagi accepts it happily. After everyone leaves, Jin apologizes sincerely in front of the closet. After saying some touching words, Nagi enters the room. She announces that she will forgive Jin. That p*sses Jin off. (her actions are so random!)

Focusing on an old closet door handle, Jin walks into his bedroom with a Capirus* Water and starts yelling at the closet after a moment of strained silence. With no reply, he tries unsuccessfully to open the door. Pissed at Jin for whatever he did to her yesterday night, Nagi refuses to come out of the closet for anything. Not swayed at all by Jin’s arguments about food or toilet, she’ll just live in there instead..
