Hmm... For those of you who've been wondering what's been missing from Nodame Cantabile (the anime) fear not... for the obligatory beach episode is finally here! This short special feature (about 14 minutes in length including OP and ED) takes place just before Chiaki, Nodame and gang arrive at the music camp (episode 7 thereabouts). In fact, it starts out exactly as episode 7 did, with Nodame, Mine and Masumi annoying the hell out of Chiaki in Mine's car, only turns out that the gang stopped by the sea before their final destination, much to Chiaki's horror since he never did get over that fear of boats and the sea (alluded to in ep 1). And of course, Chiaki doesn't want to reveal his phobia to his adoring entourage, which of course still doesn't stop Nodame and Masumi in their lousy attempts at wooing him to and in the water, so cue hilarity. It's great watching all the things I loved about Nodame Cantabile again in this extra feature to the series again: hearing Kawasumi Ayako as Nodame and her signature Mukyaa~!, as well as Seki Tomokazu voicing a non-trashy role (here's looking at you, KimiAru), and pondering Masumi's actual gender for the umpteenth once again... and no CGI instrument-playing to confuse me in sight! Though it's hardly been a year since the series ended (so any sense of nostalgia seems to be a little too indulgent on my part), this was still a enjoyable 14 minutes for me as a fan. Now if only they'll eventually be doing anime specials on the Europe arc as they're doing with the live action...

I think this would be one of the best animes of 2007 ^^
This episode is about Mine Ryutaro, a violin player who loves rock. He also thinks he’s great and people can’t keep up with his “artistic” abilities. His violin exam is next week and no pianist is willing [...]

I just finished watching Nodame Cantabile drama, and I have to say, its really nice! Its great to watch a live action about music. The last music themed live action I watched was Nana movie, and to date these are the only two shows to have made me shed manly tears of sorrow and joy!

A Nodame Cantabile special focusing on the Europe arc was aired recently sometime around the new year, which was a surprise to me, since although I was a fan of the series(both anime and live action), I didn’t really keep tabs with the drama. The special itself is 2 hours long and there are currently [...]

Nodame (Noda Megumi) played by Ueno Juri (Orange Days, Jodan ja nai!) and Chiaki Shinichi played by Tamaki Hiroshi (Atsu-hime, Great Teacher Onizuka) are graduating from college with their friend Mine Ryutaro played by Eita (Orange Days, Lunch no Joou), then Nodame and Chiaki are off to Europe with a stop in Prague for a concert by Chiaki’s former instructor Sebastino Vieira. Then they head for Paris where it becomes apparent that Nodame can’t speak French. But at their apartment building Nodame learns to speak French when their neighbor and French otaku Frank played by Wentz Eiji (Gegege no Kitaro, Lovely Complex) plays a French dubbed anime favorite of Nodame. Tanya a Russian music student played by Becky (Rondo, Stand Up!!) is another of their neighbors and she has her eye on Chiaki. All the elements that made the award winning drama series are reunited and a very enjoyable two part sequel has begun. The characters are outstanding I particularly enjoyed Frank, and the train station scene loaded with French cosplayers on the way to see Nodame’s favorite mangaka. If you haven’t seen the drama I highly recommend that you grab it and watch it now it is one of my all time favorite dramas, manga and anime. This special could still be enjoyed even if you haven’t seen the series as it stands very well on its own, but the series is so great don’t deprive yourself.Download the RAW video bit torrent file here; the soft subs for part one of the special can be downloaded here. SARS-Fansubs will be releaseing a hardsub edition if you prefer them, I'll post links for that and for the soft subs for part of the special as they are released.

Episode: Nodame Cantabile Episode 1
I apologize for being late but I made the mistake in thinking I can do a full summary in just under 5 hours. How wrong that turned out to be. Even after 5 hours, I haven't covered half of the episode so I decided to re-write everything and just summarize the important parts of the story. Even then it still ends up being rather long. At any rate, I don't think I have the patience to write long-winded sentences like I used to. But then again two hours show is also a bit too much to be given a blow-by-blow treatment. I remember spending at least a few hours just to write those episodic review of the live-action series. Anyway, this one is actually a little bit all over the place but it still has that feel-good feel of the other episodes. The ending is a bit abrupt but it can't be helped since the manga is not completed yet. I'm actually surprised that the writers decided to squeeze in so many parts from the manga into a two 2 hours episode.

Okay, that was brutal. I don't mean the actual show itself because that's actually pretty good. But what I had to go through just to watch/blog the episode was rough. First, it took 5 hours just to get the 2GB episode. After obtaining it, I realised that the first episode itself goes for 2 hours. That means spending an additional 6 hours just to watch, screencap, choose, and optimized the images. Thankfully today is Saturday and tomorrow is Sunday so I think I could finish blogging the first episode by Sunday. Not sure when I can do the second episode though. I'm glad that the episode worth it though. It's cheesy as usual but at least the series is very aware of how ridiculous the situation in the story can be. I'm also surprised at how the writers manage to squeeze in every single characters from the original series into this special. Even characters who are not supposed to be in the European arc of the story actually appear in this drama. Their roles are minimal though and it does not disrupt or change the story in any way. Anyway, I'll have to leave you with images and short summary for now since it's 4.45am here. I'll be back to add the impression and if time permits, full summary.

Ueno Juri (Jodan ja nai!, Orange Days) and Tamaki Hiroshi (Atsu-hime , Itoshi Kimi e) the stars of Nodame Cantabile appeared on the Japanese variety show Hanerunotobira. There part in the show is set in 100 Yen Shop, and from what I can tell from the RAW video the contest is to determine what doesn't belong in the 100 Yen (Dollar Store). The Nodame Cantabile special airs tomorrow and Saturday night night. I loved the drama series, manga and anime so I'll post screen caps of the special once the soft or hardsubs are released, whichever's first.Download the bit torrent file for the RAW video here, screen shots below.

It looks like the dates for the special episodes are finally set. The first episode will run on the 4th of January while the 2nd episode will run on the 5th of January. I'm actually excited. It's been awhile since I watch any anime or Japanese drama. And since Winter anime selection turns out to be duds again, at least for me, it looks like it'll just be watching Japanese drama this season. As for the Nodame special, it is now has an official title: Nodame Cantabile in Europe. Looking at the cast list, I'm slightly disappointed that Kuroki (Fukushi Seiji) is not actually on the cast list. I'm also amused that they cast Japanese actors to play Frank and Tanya. Admittedly, Eiji Wentz (yes, one half of WaT), who'll play Frank, is half American but the guy can barely speak English. I've never heard of Becky before so I can't comment on her abilities, both acting and Russian-speaking skill. Speaking of casting, did you know that Mukai Osamu who plays Kikuchi Tooru in Nodame live-action will play Mayama in Honey and Clover live-action? I'm pretty glad with this casting since the guy was pretty funny in Nodame. Hopefully he can bring out Mayama's twisted sense of humour into the live-action.

Gone were the days when I simply ignored news about Wii games. So here I am, excited about the upcoming Nodame Cantabile game coming out for the Wii on December 27! Yeah I know, I'm late for the news. But hey, I just got my Wii last last week! :p
Mongoose demonstrates how to fiddle instruments with your Wii-mote~
At first I thought the game was simply about conducting, and I can already imagine how it's going to be done with the Wii-mote. To my surprise, you can also get to "play" all the other instruments in the orchestra: piano, oboe, timpani, clarinet, violin, flute, and cello! It'll require some imagination, as you only have the wii-mote and the nunchuck to fiddle the instruments with, and I think you'll be mistaken as a crazy person once other people see you so engrossed with playing the "violin" for example XD It's gonna be so much fun playing this with a bunch of other Wii-mates, where you'll all be immersed into the world of the orchestra~ :P

Nodame Cantabile
Name: Nodame Cantabile (live-action)
Genre: Comedy, Music
Year: 2006
Rating: Recommended
Following the manga by Tomoko Ninomiya, Nodame Cantabile is a romantic comedy with classical music theme. We have all heard of the famous composer Beethoven and maybe can even name a few of his pieces however when it comes to classical music the very thought of listening to an orchestral performance can bore and cause many to avoid its presence. However this live-action series like many others puts an interesting spin on a topic that would generally be considered dull. Megumi Noda (Nodame) is a talented pianist attending Momogaoka Collage of music. With the ability to play by ear and a strong passion for music this particular student would have been perceived as a top student, however distaste for sheet music and playing pieces how they were originally written puts Nodame's piano skills to a level much like her cooking and personal hygiene. Shinichi Chiaki the top student of Momogaoka is a talented pianist and violinist. Although he has the ambition to become a conductor his traumatic experience with flight has left him stranded in Japan unable to study abroad.
