It really seems now that the Pumpkin Scissors crew are having a hard time finding a way to "save the world." I had really expected more action and more mini-bosses, but lately we've been shown more of the non-violent side of the war. I guess thats a good thing, but usually it doesn't translate well for viewers who wait a week to watch a 24 minute show. I didn't really mind this episode and actually kind of enjoyed the fresh outlook on all the characters. Just as good as last episode, maybe better because of the message it got across.

God there was so much hubhub about this episode licking balls and such, but I didn’t think this was that horrible. People cry when there’s too much action, then more people cry when there’s no action. The writers just can’t win it seems. I felt they did a decent job, and I’ll try to explain why without rambling too much.

Sorry for the rather low-res quality of the large images but hunting for the raw has been quite difficult today. This is why I haven't been able to do Kekkaishi episode 4 because I can't seem to find a copy. As soon as I do, I will post an update for that series. Anyway, this turns out to be a funny and nice little episode. It may not have the action of last week's but it made up in character development for all of the characters. This episode also shows a little bit information in regards to Oland's past. It'll be interesting to see how things go from here on now that Pumpkin Scissors start to become interested in Invisible 9 and the secret behind those units.

I thought this was a great episode. A lot of times it's hard to match the same quality as the first episode, but I think this was damn close (about the same as the second episode). They did a good job and I'm looking forward to whatever might happen in the future. Hopefully they'll keep this level of detail in their art, and also not stray from the plot too much. Last week we had a nice view of Alice's past and got to see a little bit behind her motives. This week, the general focus was more towards Panda-kun.

If you were disappointed with the previous two episodes, I think this will make up for them. The action is slightly ramped-up and there are some interesting conspiracy abound in this episode. This episode also confirms that 901-ATT unit wasn't an invicible unit after all. I mostly just feel sorry for Oland because he always so willing to sacrifice his own life. I am glad to know that Alice starts having a mildly positive impact on his life but I am not sure if her presence is enough to get him away from his past, especially since there are factions who are keen on exploring his ability. Anyway, animation-wise, this episode slightly better than last week. In fact, I was quite impressed with the stylised artwork that the animators use to depict Oland's bloody past while he and his comrades mutter "Toten Sie" (Kill) while they march toward a few tanks.

Impressions: As everyone has already pointed out, the animation quality has dropped a little. I also thought there were some fluctuations in the way the characters were drawn. I don't know what everyone was complaining about. From the comments I saw of this episode, I half expected to get my ass kicked so hard while watching this that I'd denounce my love for Pumpkin Scissors. The quality might have been a little worse than the first two, but nothing to really panic over. The plot was a little slow this episode, but somewhat necessary in order to develop Alice's character. Hopefully, next episode will be the start of a new era in which GONZO picks up the slack from this week of vacation they just had.
