Hello everyone,
Here we are again for some rambling. This time while we take Shakugan No Shana as example the talk may be extended to many of the characters of the recent anime series (especially the one similiar in setting to Shakugan No Shana).
The focus of today is the indecisiveness and stupidity of the main character while compared to the strength of each of the girls standing near him.
Let's take Yuuji Sakai from Shakugan no Shana as example. He has one of the most powerful artifact of the world inside him, after the first season has the energy and power of a King of Kuze...now please focus and remember the most used line by him...
Yes, it's a scream. He is costantly screaming in fear of everything and everyone for the whole two series. The few cool scenes are all taken up by Shana or her counterparts.
And you may say "he's a normal human, you can't judge him this way Feal!".
Ok! Point taken, he is after all a "normal" human after all (if we exclude that he has enough energy to destroy the entire city without much effort).
Let's go analyze something normal humans do, like falling in love and receiving or doing confessions!
What has Sakai Yuuji done till now?! He has been completely passive and to add to the top of it he still don't realize there are two girls that are literally falling up for him.
And we can't say that the poor Shana hasn't done the best to tell him her love. (she tried twice or more if I remember correct and most of the time the result was generally "there is too much background noise, I don't hear you, but I'll smile anyway")
Hell, why all main characters can't be like Ayumu from Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?
Powerful (and he should be technically less powerful than Yuuji), a little hard to understand when love is in the air (but anyway received NO direct confessions), but certainly not a wimp that hide himself behind the first random girl!
Well, concluding what I'm trying to say is that the standard wimp, powerless protagonist is getting annoying.
We need more man that act like man (I can condonate being hard to understand the love around you, but at least don't scream all the time), like Ayumu from Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka, Hakuoro from Utawarerumono or Arawn from Tears to Tiara or even Touma from To Aru Majutsu no Index (even if he is a little too much harem builder )
Well that's all for now, let's hope for a nice third season of Shakugan no Shana with "maybe" a more normal protagonist. (I heard he become "evil", it should be interesting to watch)
See you soon,
