Hello again,
Here we are for a new review. This time we'll talk about a light novel/manga/anime series that populate thousands of wallpapers in my folders (Literally). It's name is Strike Witches and the original light novel is written by Noboru Yamaguchi.
Let's start up with a quick synopsys from Wikipedia :
Set in a world similar to Earth in the mid twentieth century, Strike Witches tells the story of a fight to protect that world using a combination of magic and technology. The titular Strike Witches are young women with high magical potential who are recruited into military organizations around the world to fight against the enigmatic Neuroi, which began an invasion of unprecedented scale on human territory in the year 1939. This puzzling enemy force has appeared frequently and without warning in many areas across the world throughout history. The weapons of the Neuroi mostly take on forms similar to aircraft, but their most troubling tactic is the spreading of a corrosive miasma. Not only do normal humans have no defense against this miasma, but the remnants of the land affected by it are processed by the Neuroi into new weapons, crumbling huge sections of former nations into the sea. As the miasma seems to be unable to spread across large bodies of water, humanity has designated such areas as their main lines of defense.
The story is quite original, but unfortunately is just a way to hide fanservice for each one of the characters. There isn't much depth to the story so you'll never get really into this story.
The characters...that is the real core and focus of this series. Their interaction is what moves the story and what makes the drama and comedy happen!
They are many, cute and likable! But they do not show growth over the series, but remain fixed in their own behaviour all along.
One problem with this series is exactly the sheer amount of character for a so short series (2 seasons)...
I would have liked to explore more of each of the witches backstory in depth. (there have been some backstory episode, but too few in my honest opinion)
The seiyuu for this series are a mix of famous and not-so-famous one, but each one of them do a good job portraying their own character. The OPs and EDs are all quite catchy and likable, but nothing special!
Concluding, this is a series I suggest to you. But watch this ONLY if you can tolerate an high amount of fanservice, which is what this series specialize on and no, this is not a good series to introduce someone to anime.
Yes, my favourite is Erica Hartmann. Don't even try to put an hand on her.
See you soon,

P.S. Don't know if you noticed, but most of the characters are based upon some famous person. For example MY Erica Hartmann is based over "Erich Alfred Hartmann", a famous german pilot during the WW2!
