For those of you who have been keeping up to date with the shenanigans following the news of a new Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi) series reported in the March issue of Newtype (which was later announced to be a re-run of the 2006 series), Sun Television has recently broadcasted the so-called new season by airing the first -chronological- episode of the first series.
As many of you know, the series’ chronological order is different from its broadcasting order. If it is infact a full series re-run, it seems as though it will be consistent with the actual story this time.
Canned Dogs lists what’s been happening with information on the new series lately, and mentions MoonPhase received reports that Haruhi will run for 28 episodes and is scheduled for more than one season (where as the first series was 14 episodes long). This has caused much discussion amongst posters at 2ch.net and other message boards, still unsure what to expect; whether it be a full series re-run (first in chronological order then original broadcast order), if it will be the original series followed by the Youtube only series, or if it will lead onto a new series. Some are also considering the recently aired episode is a trick, as there was no next episode preview after the credits. Maybe they’ll cut the new series in after the recently re-aired episode?
UPDATE:
Anime Gerard reports that the second series of Haruhi will be aired in July, however this may be another one of the producer’s tricks to stir up the fans a bit. As always, continue to take every bit of information regarding the second series with a grain of salt.
