Suddenly, the new OVA series of Marimite is upon us. The first episode was released on DVD this week, with four more to come, at two-month intervals. The fine voice-acting is so important to this show. Here is a page with pics of ten main characters and photos of their voice actresses. Noto Mamiko's breathy voice is at its best, as Shimako. The wonderful Koshimizu Ami has been added to the cast, playing Kanako. And Ueda Kana and Itou Miki, as Yumi and Sachiko, seem even better than before. Links on the page take you to more info about each seiyuu. It was great to feel those delicate Marimite feelings again, in the first episode of the new OVA. It showed Yumi spending a week at Sachiko's family's vacation home. This involved encounters with the daughters of other rich, aristocratic families. These young ladies made Touko look positively benign. The story seemed a bit slow to me, but novel and manga readers say the anime left out a lot of detail. Perhaps I just have to get used to the Marimite style again. In any case, seeing it again made me even more certain that this is not so much sexy yuri as beautifully sentimental shoujo ai. Yumi and Sachiko's close relationship is so well portrayed.
