Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is the best of Summer 2009 season! Though I didn't follow many series this Summer season, I'm quite sure none of the other Summer 2009 series can outdo Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. Other than being realistic, this series is depressing, but yet uplifting at the same time. I cried buckets watching this series and even now, I still feel sad that Yuuki is no longer around. At the beginning of the series, I did predict that one of the main characters or their loved ones might die as it's more realistic that way (Yes! Reality sucks!). However, I seriously never thought that it would be Yuuki. Story: (10/10) – AwesomeTokyo Magnitude 8.0 revolves around Mirai who goes to Odaiba for a robot exhibition with her brother Yuuki at the start of summer vacation. A powerful earthquake strikes, the famed Rainbow Bridge crumble and fall, and the landscape of Tokyo changes in an instant. With the help of a woman named Mari who they meet in Odaiba, the three strive to head back to their home.Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is fueled by human emotions. Though it starts off a little slow, it slowly but surely builds up to an unforgettable ending.Character: 9/10 - GreatMirai and Yuuki are a very endearing pair of siblings. Mirai is a cynical and irritable teenager. She gets angry at Yuuki for being a hopeless optimist who believes that everything will turn out alright. Yuuki, on the other hand, is a very sweet and cheerful boy. Among the three characters, Mirai gets the most character development and Yuuki is the catalyst of that. The only adult main character, Mari, who is level headed and calm, serves as a guardian to Mirai and Yuuki. Though Mari may appear strong, when it comes to facing the death of loved ones, we also learn that she's as vulnerable as most of us.RIP Yuuki-kun Art/Animation: 8/10 – GoodThe character design is very simple, a little too simple by BONES standard. But well, I guess this does add to the realism. As for the animation and background art, it's quite well done.Music: 9/10 – GreatThe music used in this series is very much to my taste. The OP is 'Kimi no Uta' by abingdon boys school and the ED is 'M/elody' by Tsuji Shion.Enjoyment: 10/10 - AwesomeDespite the very sad ending, I still enjoy this series a lot. It's been a long time since I last cried buckets while watching an anime series. Overall: 10/10 - AwesomeThis is the best 2009 Summer anime series! If you like realism, this series is a must-watch.
