With dreams of becoming a composer and someday writing a song for her favorite idol, Haruka enters the Saotome Academy, a prestigious performing arts school. If successful there, she’ll be able to join the Shining Agency after graduation. However, it won’t be so easy when Haruka is already surrounded by potential idols and composers. On top of that, her homeroom teacher is a current idol, the headmaster was a record-breaking singer, and the academy itself is a chaotic place where anything can happen. Which prince of song will be paired up with Haruka..? First thought on seeing Haruka: Oh. My. God. THE EYES. WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER EYES!? Haruka's eyes are afire; they are the eyes that will devour your soul, the eyes that see all, the eyes that declare the coming of the end of the world... They're also the eyes that are thoroughly devoted to paying plenty of attention to the boys around her, with one in particular being her personal saviour. In some ways, there are comparisons to be made with Ouran High School Host Club here - one girl, surrounded by boys, and Saotome Academy has more than a passing visual similarity to Ouran High. But Ouran had one thing going for it: it was, mostly, gut-bustingly funny. Uta no Prince-sama isn't. I have a hard time connecting with the world of idols at the best of times (see: IdolM@ster); make them all male idols and I'm even less interested. Haruka may be nicely drawn, but she exists to be someone to gush over the boys, and that's just not entertaining. At least, if you're a 39-year-old guy. THE GOOD: Nope, I got nothing here. THE BAD: Idols. Women gushing after men. Repeat. I can take something out of most shows that I watch - I'm very tolerant, and have wide tastes. For some things, though, I'm just too far out of the target demographic to even be on the radar - a few seasons back it was Cardfight!! Vanguard, this time (for rather different reasons) it's Uta no Prince-sama. If you're closer to the target audience than I am, go for it, knock yourself out, I'm sure there's plenty here for you. Me, I'm outta here.
