A little too long in the sun (he really needs a desk change in class) sees Ayumu sent off to the school infirmary to recover, and while there he spots a girl snooping through the medicine cabinets, and over the next few days he runs into her several times, eventually striking up a friendship of sorts with her - although Ayumu's not quite sure that she isn't just an imaginary friend. Meanwhile, rumours are beginning to spread of a cross-dressing, chainsaw-wielding maniac being seen in the area near the school, whose description is suspiciously close to Ayumu's... I had great fun with the first season of Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?, so this was up near the top of my "most anticipated" list for the season. Of course, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san has come along an made sure that any other comedy series has a real fight on its hands, but KoreZom seems to be up to the task. The series also doesn't take long to get to the real business: having been forced to transform into said cross-dressing, chainsaw-wielding maniac in front of the entire student body when a megalo attacks (in a sequence that seems eerily familiar to the opening episode of the first season), Ayumu had been hoping to use Mysteltainn's memory-wipe ability to restore his dignity and reuptation. But, having damaged the magical chainsaw in combat, that suddenly isn't an option, and Ayumu suddenly begins to wish the Earth beneath him would just open up and swallow him now. While he spends the next few episodes looking for a way to undo the damage, though (I'm up to episode 3 so far), there are some girls on the scene who quite liked what they saw. Let the comedy begin... THE GOOD: All the good stuff from the first season is here - the series is wisely not messing with an idea that worked to begin with. Aside from Ayumu's reputational problems, there are a few other plotlines lurking in the background that seem promising, involving an as-yet-unnamed new character and something that Dai-sensei's up to. THE BAD: Seraphim and Sarasvati still grate on my nerves, and my mind will forever be scarred by upskirt shots of Ayumu. For the love of sanity, stoppit. No, it's not as funny as Nyaruko-san, but it has the potential to be, if it plays its cards right - although it'll have to get a move on, as this season is apparently only ten episodes. Bring on the rest of it... Is This A Zombie? OF THE DEAD is streamed by FUNimation (North America only).
