Short Summary: In the first scene we can see a man and a woman sitting in an UN space shuttle. The man is worried but the woman says everything is going to be all right. After the death of her parents Mari Wakatake lives with her grandmother who is worried she can't take care of her grandchild anymore so Mari is sent to a boarding school for rich girls. She's sad on the way in the car, till she recognizes a flock of sea gulls dashing through the sky to gather around a long haired girl on a rock in the water. Mari and the girl's eyes meet before the car passes by. At school Mari is welcomed by the director and two teachers, but she behaves unpolite and axclusive and from the very beginning the older female teacher rebukes her. As today is a holiday the school building is almost empty so the director takes a look out of the window and calls the only pupil he can see nearby to guide Mari. The girl's name is Kouzuki Michiko and she tries to show everything to the new pupil but Mari feels abandoned by her grandmother andwants to be alone so she runs away, by accident to her new classroom. Mari calms down and after she said goodbye to the butler who had brought her to school Michiko leads her to their dormitory. While Mari waits for the matron the girl from the rock in the sea - Senkouji Hagino - appears. Mari looks happy and greets her warmly but when the girls shake hands Hagino sees a vision of a big ship, flames and a crying younger version of Mari. Her eyes turn into a glowing blue and she tries to strangle the shocked Mari till she sees another vision of the crying, little girl. Hagino's eyes return to their normal colour and she stares at her hands. Mari is angry and throws a bunch of flowers at the other girl who already killed her and when Michiko returns with the matron she leaves the room without saying "hello". There's no reason for her to stay at such a place any longer. Michiko goes to look for her and when she finally finds Mari she tells her she was born in the nearby town and is the only girl at school who's parents are not rich. The two return together to join the other girls living at the dormitory for dinner. Mari is introduced, but when Hagino as representative greets her Mari freaks out and a fight between a bunch of girls starts. In the end Mari ends up hungry and angry in her room. Late at night she's still awake and recognizes Hagino sneaking out. She follows her to the harbor docks and out of the water appears a big ship or something that seems not to be from this world. Mari stumbles and is in a state of shock. Hagino's eyes are glowing in the dark! My opinion: Blue Drop is what I use to call a very quiet show. The main focus lies on the characters and their relationships and I simply love that kind of series. This first episode starts of a bit slow paced just to get a fast kick when Hagino strangles Mari unexpectedly. The whole thing is spiced up with a slight science fiction touch and interesting but also loveable characters ( I'm already fond of Michiko who seems to a very good girl) so I'm pretty sure I will give this show in the fall season a go!
