Nodame Cantabile Paris-Hen 9 Looks like the final recital arc has begun! Nodame and Chiaki - along with Tanya the skanky golddigger and Kuroki the shy oboeist - head to the seaside in Chiaki’s new car. (I knew there had to be some reason for his random car purchase last episode…) They play on the beach and do some shopping before heading on to the castle where Nodame will be performing her Mozart recital. This was a pretty funny episode between Chiaki’s debilitating fear of the ocean, Tanya and Kuroki’s mutual antagonism (I laughed out loud when he criticized her fashion sense) and the anticipated “grand buffet” at the castle being replaced by plain rice - “because our guests are Japanese!” There was also some good drama in Nodame’s anxiety about Mozart, and the building frustration she feels over all the different ways she has been instructed to play him. Nervous about her recital the next day, Nodame leaves dinner early and chats with an insightful butler who lends her 3 volumes of Mozart’s letters to read. Since they’re in French, she begs Chiaki to read them to her as a “bedtime story” (and he was all worried/blushing about sharing a bed with her! Christ, Chaiki is the cutest male tsundere of all time.) It’s clear by the end of the episode that Nodame’s really connecting with Mozart’s playful nature through the jokes in his letters. … In other news I still love this show.
