It was never my plan to watch this anime series. I'm glad I changed my mind and decided to give it a shot. The first episode is wonderful! The ending is incredible. I actually cried! Even though I'm not fascinated about its art/animation, I love its storytelling. It's beautiful. I'm definitely going to continue watching this!Opening and Ending ThemesThe Opening theme 'Summer Rain' is sung by Kobukuro. The Ending theme is 'Heartfelt Dream' (恋焦がれて見た夢), composed and sung by Ayaka. I love the Ending theme. It's the perfect song for the sad scene at the end.Mini SummaryFifth-grader Kou Kitamura was born on the same day in the same hospital as his neighbor, Wakaba Tsukishima, who treats him as her boyfriend. One day, she makes him give her a ride on his bike to her swimming lessons and gives him a kiss on the cheek in return. On the way back, to avoid classmate Osamu Akaishi, who also likes Wakaba, Kou joins a baseball game. He fields badly as he has never played catchball or baseball before. However, because he has been batting in the Tsukishima family's batting cages since he was 3 years old, he hits the game-winning home run.On their birthdays, after exchanging gifts, Wakaba gives Kou a schedule of the birthday gifts to give on her future birthdays. When she sees Kou's baseball cap, she takes it and decides to bring it along to her swimming camp. The two promise each other to go to the summer festival together when she returns from her camp.Two days later, however, the news report that a girl had drowned while saving a younger girl at a swimming camp. That girl is Wakaba. After attending her funeral, Kou decides to the summer festival by himself. He wears the cap that Wakaba’s father had returned to him. Kou feels completely lost without Wakaba. He does not know how to respond until he sees Akaishi crying outside Wakaba's house that evening.
