The first episode is always very crucial to give out a good first impression on the viewer. The first few minutes of the first episode is even more crucial as it aims to catch the viewer's attention. Kuroshitsuji not only aced the first few minutes, but also the entire first episode! The scene opens with a bruised and battered boy suspended mid-air with white feathers floating all around him. Then you see that he wasn't alone, a lone black bird was perched on a branch nearby talking to him about forming a contract. The injured boy impatiently cut him off and demanded to form the contract. Then you see the same boy sleeping on a bed in a lavish room (What? It was all just a dream???). A handsome butler came to wake him and helped him get ready for the day. As he turned to leave, the boy suddenly threw a dart in his direction which the butler amazingly caught between his fingers without even as much as a glance back! A test? The butler proceeded to prepare the mansion to welcome a special Italian guest for dinner. Although the rest of the household attempted to help, it all turned up chaotic. But not to worry! The butler apparently is one of those know-it-alls. He managed to turn around everything and fixed all the mess in time for the guest's arrival. Ciel, the boy, had the guest to enjoy a game with him before dinner. The board game is not just a simple child's play, it had a very dark feel to it. However, the guest was more keen to talk business and request for funding compared to playing the board game. After dinner, the guest excused himself to make a phone call. Now the man shows his true colors. He had sold the toy factory in the east, and was lying through his teeth about the 25,000 pounds he wanted from Ciel to help him open another toy factory. Turns out he plans to use those 25,000 pounds for his own benefits, and couldn't care less about opening another toy factory. Suddenly everything went weird. He started seeing ghosts and the misfits which he landed upon during the board game was happening to him! He left the mansion screaming for his life, still intact. Apparently it was all just an illusion brought by the butler. But how? And now you see the boy in a new light. He might be just a boy, but he ain't any ordinary boy.
