Konan vs. Madara.
Lesson of the day: Don't underestimate girls.
Summary:
Madara has come to Amegakure to claim Nagato's Rinnegans, but of course Konan refuses to hand them over without a fight. Madara notices that Konan is still wearing the Akatsuki outfit, and Konan states that it's because Akatsuki was created by Yahiko. Konan also adds that Nagato's Rinnegans belong to the village, but Madara claims that it was he who convinced Yahiko to start Akatsuki and also he gave Nagato the Rinnegans. Konan is surprised by the claims but attacks regardless. Konan surrounds Madara with her paper projectiles. Madara counters by trying to vacuum Konan up with his eye hole, but he suddenly realizes Konan had mixed explosive tags with her papers. Konan triggers the tags and creates a big explosion.
Flashback time: years ago, Yahiko's group was running into hard times and many members including Nagato were in bad shape. Yahiko took it upon himself to do some recon, and before leaving he told Konan that Nagato was the bridge to lead them to true peace and that it was his job to hold the bridge up. After Yahiko left, Nagato and the rest of the group joined Konan and Nagato states that Yahiko was the true "bridge". Konan decided that both Yahiko and Nagato were important and she do her best to support them.
Back to the present, Madara managed to swallow up most of the explosion but is still hurt by the attack, while Konan also survived because of Madara's actions. Madara then asks Konan if she has any other plans, and Konan replies by creating a deep chasm in the water with her papers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A decent start to the battle. Half of the chapter was used up in a not very important flashback, but the half that took place in the present was interesting enough. I am interested to see how Madara is going to back up his claims that he spurred Yahiko to form Akatsuki and that he gave the Rinnegans to Nagato. As for the fight, I'm a little surprised that Madara is in such bad shape right now after just one attack by Konan, but then again he did underestimate her and he isn't invincible (unlike a certain villain from Bleach). Props to one of the commenters on my last Naruto post for mentioning that explosive tags was going to be involved, but explosive tags make a lot of sense given Konan's paper attacks. It's curious that Madara hasn't demonstrated any special attacking ability other than the eye-hole vacuum, and he might have to use a new move now that Konan has an even more impressive attack coming along. Konan is making use of her home court advantage, but I'm sure Madara will still get what he wants eventually.
